Description Of Event: Danvers Family Festival
tradition continues this year with the Annual Danvers Recreation
Fishing Derby in Memory of Mike Gordon.
The fun family event
will start at 9:00 a.m., and young anglers will line the perimeter
of Endicott
Park's picturesque pond and cast their lines in the morning
air. Hoots and hollers can be heard as kids and their parents
make a catch.
John LeBlanc and his
brother, Lester LeBlanc, both of Danvers, run the derby, named
in memory of the late Michael Gordon, who organized the derby
for many years. The LeBlanc brothers said they used to fish in
the derby as children. The Leblanc’s are joined
by sponsors Mark & Gary Jones of Mead
Web Design & Computing
The rules of the derby
require children to throw back their catch immediately — mainly
perch, catfish and pickerel. The organizers also encouraged anglers
to trade in their old, lead sinkers for lead-free ones they provided. "We're
trying to get people to understand that lead hurts the environment," said
LeBlanc.
The winners of the
derby (1st & 2nd Place Family and 1st & 2nd Place Individual)
will be awarded trophy’s and of course bragging rights! |
